Is it Just Me?

Here's my conundrum.  I've been thinking about mint green nail polish a lot lately.  Gazing at photos of others wearing it (like the incomparably stylish Blair Eadie of Atlantic-Pacific in the photo above) and imagining that as my next manicure color.  I'm really loving mint green right now, generally.  My two sweaters in that color are in a pretty consistent rotation in my wardrobe right now.  And I posted about two different mint items yesterday (in fact, I started writing about it over a month ago).

So, I thought I'd take my mint fascination to the next level and apply it to my nails, so that it could be a constant presence in my life (for a week or so).  So tonight I dashed a quick coat across my nails and gazed at my own fingers in horror.

It looked awful.  I don't know what it is-- my very pale white/pink skin tone?  The shape of my nails?  Something about my overall aesthetic?  It just looks ridiculous on me.

I wish I could pull off fun colors like this, but experience keeps showing me they're just not right on me.  When I feel really committed to wearing a fun color, I put it on my toes.

Does this sound ludicrous?  Is it just me?  Or are there other people that can really only pull off really neutral nail colors without feeling like clowns?  Anyone?

Have a Happy Weekend!

  1. Yep. I do the toes thing for color. Love it.
Older Dental Hygienests tend to have colorful toes because pre-gloves, we were taught that polish chips harbored bacteria (and long nails poke cheeks). Toes were our " hidden sexy underwear" so to speak. :)

  3. I have extremely pale skin and I have to be careful about what I put on my nails. Light colors make my fingers look dirty and creepy. It's easier to just stick with a clear coat on my nails, and I try out fun colors on my toes too.

    1. Kendra- I'm so glad to here I'm not alone. Even if I'm sad for both of us that we can't partake in this trend.

  4. Hate to hear this!! I am very pale and pink as well, and I absolutely love the way that mint looks on a pale hand. I think it makes everything more soft and romantic! You simply MUST try again!! :)

    Have a wonderful weekend!

  6. I'm so jealous of you gals who (like the fabulous Blair Eadie) look great in pale green!!! I'll have to live vicariously through you!

Maybe it's more something about my nail beds or something that makes it look odd.

Well, those of you who can do it, rock it!! And those of us who can't...at least we're not alone. :)
