The Shoes Inhabiting My Dreams

In a nice juxtaposition to yesterday's post about comfortable Ugg-replacing boots, today I shall discuss the vertiginous high heels that are currently occupying space in my dreams.  Before I show them to you, let me confess: I suck at walking in high heels.  There are a few reasons for this: 1) I am a mother who normally wears ballet flats; 2) my husband is shorter than me and doesn't love when I tower over him; 3) I recently turned my ankle while wearing high heels in my cobblestone driveway and am currently undergoing physical therapy to fix whatever I did to myself in the process.

Having said all that, I cannot quit high heels.  There are a few reasons for this: 1) I hail from a long line of (I think appropriately) vain women who like looking nice at just about any cost.  My mother was known to visit me when I lived in the appropriately-named Beacon Hill section of Boston (a.k.a. very hilly), where we walked everywhere, in towering heels.  She would proceed to wear her heels as we hiked all over town and would inevitably be hobbling by the end of the day.  In fact, even after countless experiences such as this, right after we moved to Washington, D.C., my mother dudded herself up for a trip to, of all places, Arlington National Cemetery, in very high heels.  That place, too, is full of hills, so she was limping at the end of that trip too.  Don't ask me why you need to look fancy when touring a cemetery, but she clearly felt the need.

Isn't it funny that I will, next, be moving to San Francisco, the hilliest place I've ever been.  Count on seeing my mother scaling hills that seem impossible for cars to ascend in the highest heels she can get her hands on.

Anyway, I digress (quite a lot, in fact).  In fact, I never got to the other reasons I can't get rid of my high heels.  Anyway, this is all a lead in to the high heels that I can't get off my mind (despite my height, my frail ankle, my children, etc.).  With no further ado, here they are, in all their multi-colored, velcro-enhanced, python and stud-accented glory:

Cue choirs of angels accompanying them in all their loveliness.  Aren't they great?

In particular, I love the shot of cobalt blue peeking out beneath them.  That color is really speaking to me for spring (I know winter isn't officially here yet, but I hate winter enough to want to look right past it).  But there is so much else to love about these heels.  First of all, they were designed by Alexander Wang, the genius behind this year's silver mirrored high heel loafer: and stunning silver "cape shoe" that most fashionistas/fashion bloggers couldn't get off their minds.

They also bear the mark of the gladiator shoes that have been around for the past few springs/summers, but take them in a new (and even more powerful) direction.  They've also, simply, got a lot going on.  So, when your eyes take them in, they are imprinted on your brain (maybe forever).  Hence my unintentionally long ode to them.  If interested, you can purchase them here.
