The Gold Standard

Given the choice of metallics, I normally veer toward silver.  But gold is big this spring, and since glitter remains on the map, gold glitter abounds.  Here are two of my favorite gold glittery inspirations for spring:

Miu Miu's Noir Catwalk Sunglasses (they're no longer available in gold but click here to see them in black) take the cateye look that is ubiquitous right now one step further by adding a slightly funkier shape and a large dose of glitter.  Though I normally avoid this shape of sunglasses, this design is just different enough to make me want to take the plunge.

Then there are these gorgeous Givenchy sandals.  Another huge heap of gold glitter on top of a tough biker girl sandal is just irreverent enough to make me look a second (and third, and...) time.  These shoes just make me smile, and they make me dream of walking into my closet and seeing them staring back at me.  

And when in doubt about any trend, you can always ease into it by starting with nail polish.  Hence, I introduce Deborah Lippmann Boom Boom Pow.  It can be used as an overcoat to another color (or an opaque gold).  So try gold on for size.  In keeping with the title here, it may just become your standard.
